Keeping an open mind: Succeeding in the pharmaceutical industry

Guest: Rory Mullen (head of BioPharma and IDA Ireland)

Rory Mullen, as the head of BioPharma and IDA Ireland, meets a lot of people, to say the least. He started studying in business and working in advertising, but wanted to expand his horizons internationally, outside his native Ireland. Specializing in consumer products, he found his way to Prague during its transition from communism, which taught him a lot about how governments can work. Finally, he entered the pharmaceutical industry when he moved to California, which is the field he works in today.

To Rory, the most interesting part of his job is dealing with companies and ensuring that the right talent is available to further and promote the best research and development. He acts as a bridge between clients in the pharmaceutical industry and the government, making the gap as seamless as possible. To keep his passion alive, he continues to learn about his industry and work with different cultures – something that wouldn’t have been possible without his previous careers.
