Studying active volcanoes on a daily basis

Guest: Glyn Williams-Jones (Volcanologist, Simon Fraser University)

In this edition of Careers That Matter, we meet volcanologist Glyn Williams-Jones, whose enthusiasm for his job makes you want to say, "Where do I sign up?" He says volcanoes are just like people: they each have their own personality. Each one is unique, each one shifts, expands and, at times, explodes.

The job is a combination of vast array of talents, education and skills. It’s the kind of job you have to create. For Williams-Jones, it’s a passion that we can all be thankful he has because his plan is to ensure we don’t get caught unaware the way we did in 2010 when Mount Meager collapsed and sent the largest landslide in Canadian history racing towns Lil’wat and Pemberton.
